Hi Kevin,

No, a hamster and gerbil cannot live together.  They are 2 different species, so they won't get along.  They will fight very violently.  In fact, you should keep your hamster away from your gerbil altogether.

Two gerbils can live together happily, though.  Syrian hamsters (sometimes called "Teddy Bear," or "Golden" hamsters) must live alone.  Dwarf hamsters, on the other hand, can be kept together.
