newborn chihuahua puppies

I was wondering if it is safe for me to leave my female chihuahua home alone with her newborn puppies while I go to work.

Is she a new mother?  How old are the pups?  Did she have any complications?  Is she safely ensconced in a whelping box?  Has she had any issues with "rejecting" pups?  Are the pups all sucking and growing?

A whelping box where she can't get out is a safe place and good place to start.
