Question
QUESTION: i tried mating my bitch her last season but missed. ive been trying again this season but im not having any luck again. she is in her 16th day of the season and is still bleeding very small amout but it is a lighter watery colour. she has been to the stud 3 times in the last few days but they are not mating last time he actually went for her. have i missed it again? we took her first on the 12th day and another 2 times since then is she supose to have stopped bleeding altogether?

ANSWER: Hi Lisa

She should only spot.

In this case I would have progesterone testing done. Your female may ovulate later (or early) and that is the reason she's not catching.

You may be early... is she still standing for the male?

QUESTION: hello,
she went to the dog again last night and he attacked her and was not interested. she is still bleeding a tiny bit and it is more of a watery colour. iam totally confused as to why it is so difficult

ANSWER: If the male attacked her, I would think that he's the problem.  Especially if she's in heat and has discharge.  Most males consider that a sign that they need to be mating.

I would try another male.

QUESTION: hello again,
we tried another male last night who was interested and the dogs owner was a breeder so therefore knew what he was doing! the dog was trying but the bitch kept dropping her bum ive been told. she he thinks that she has past it or missed. i dont undersatnd this as she is still spotting and it is only just starting to go watery. she is in her 18th day of season now could she be a late ovulater or have we missed it. he told us if we ever wanted to do it in the future to take her on day 10 to 12 of her season but she was still bleeding heavily on these dates this season. any ideas should i try again or should i leave it till next season

Answer
Honestly, do the progesterone testing.  It's simple blood work and it takes the guess work out. It will also save you aggravation and frustration.

We have a female that ovulates between her 19th - 21 day and one that ovulates day 9.  It's a matter of testing and knowing your females.
