American Pitbull skin problems

Question
Hello i hope i wrote to the right person. i have a ten month old american pitbull and he has very sensitive skin. i have had him in the vet recently and there is no major medical problem. it almost looks like he is just really chapped. the problem area is mostly under all his legs, in the "arm pit" like area, and in his genital area. i know it is nothing too serious, but is there anything i can do to make him a little more comfortable.

Answer
Hi,
You did not mention what you are feeding, but I would increase the amount of fat in his diet.  I would also get him on a good vitamin and mineral pill each day.  The minerals will help coat conditioning, however, it takes about 4 months before you will see a difference.  I would give him some hamburger meat with his food  about the size of a large Swedish meatball.  You can give it raw or you can give it cooked.  if you boil it, make sure he gets the juices too.
I have raised terriers for years, pit bulls are high in energy even though they are not hyper.  Their skin tends to dry out.  This should help,  For immediate help I would put gold bond medicated powder on the areas to ease any itch and also benedryl can help as well.

good luck nancy
