eyes of my Chihuahua

Question
My Chihuahua keeps rubbing her eyes and licking her feet after rubbing her eyes and they are watering and she blinks a lot.
She is only three years old.
Is there a home remedy or something that I can do to relieve her eye problem?  I am wondering if she really needs to go the the vet instead of trying a home remedy?

Answer
Hi Patsy,

Being such a little dog, and so low to the ground, it's possible pollen, dust or something else is irritating your dog's eyes. You can try flushing your dog's eyes with a sterile saline solution, the same kind contact lens wearers use.

If that doesn't seem to help, and your dog continues to show signs of discomfort, the next step would be to have your vet examine her. It's possible something is caught in her eye, or that she's developed a case of conjunctivitis.

Best of luck,

Patti
