dead puppy

My 5 year old miniature Pom got pregnant by my neighbors chiwawa. Christmas eve night she gave birth to 1 dead puppy. Since she won't eat, stays in her bed and cries. Sometimes she gets out of her bed and goes around the house and whines and cries. Is this normal? What can I do to console her?

I had a similar thing happen to me many years ago, and there is not much you can do for your dog. It took mine two weeks to return to "normal" again.

You might try getting yours out for walks to distract her, and maybe give her a little furry toy and she if she takes to that; some will "adopt" a toy when they have lost puppies, but mine never did.
