Question
My dog browny has slowly been getting skinnier and skinnier, we have plenty of food and water available for her, but when we give her food, she throws up. She has become extremely skinny. What kind of food can we give her to help her gain some strength and some weight.

Answer
Dear Carmen,

Thank you for writing to me about your sweet dog Browny.  Unfortunately you are assuming that the problem with your dog not eating is the food.  It's not.  Your dog is extremely ill and needs medical attention.  She is probably in quite a bit of pain and it would be cruel not to bring her to a vet to see what is going on and if there is anything that can be done before it's too late.

It is natural for a dog to want to eat and when they don't, they are very ill or dying and definitely in a lot of pain.  You MUST bring her to your vet as soon as possible for a checkup.  You don't say how long this has been going on but if your dog is getting skinnier and skinnier than it must have been for quite some time.  I don't know if your dog is going to make it or not but without medical intervention, she will surely die a horrible death.

Please get her some medical attention immediately.

Regards,
Shelley Davis
