VERY shy puppy

Question
I have had my new puppy for almost a week.He is an 8 week old German Shepherd/Akita mix. I have raised puppies before, though I do not have another dog in the house at the moment.  My new puppy will not get out of the corner.  He stays in the same spot all day long (literally). If I want to interact with him I have to pick him up and move him then he runs into the nearest corner and shoves himself as tightly as he can into it.  He does wag his tail when he sees myself or my boyfriend but he will not move. We have to carry him outside to use the potty and carry him back in.  He will only eat or drink if no one is looking. He isn't hand shy, food aggressive, or vocal in anyway ( I have never heard him whine, bark, grunt or moan).  How can I get him out of the corner and start to socialize him?

Answer
Hi Amanda;
It sounds like a puppy that has been abused, doesn't it?
He may just be extremely shy, by nature, or something could have frightened him badly, maybe weeks ago.
Hard to say.
I have had good luck helping train out of fears, aggression etc, and it should work on shyness too.
I use the Tellington-Touch method of animal massage. I have gotten the videos for massaging cats and horses too, because those are the animals family members have.
Go to this site, and read what can be done with the massages.
If you decide to try it, you can also order a video from there, to learn how to do the massages.
There is a basic circle, but there are specific places and ways to massage for different problems.
A 10 oe 15 minute massage should help build up a puppy's confidence and doing that several times , maybe once a day, more if you have time, should help him in just a week or so.

I really recommend these massages.
I have used the all over massages for post surgery recovery, and helped speed the recovery time by 2 or 3 times as fast. I also have given a lot of relief from pain of arthritis and other joint problems in older dogs, with fewer medications, and actually helped lengthen their life, when they would have had to be put down from too much pain.
I really can't prasie the massages too highly. I have seen such great results from them.
The cattle and horse ranchers that have high dollar breeding stock, race horses and/or show horses, have a professional massage therapist come out monthly and before each race and show, and have their animals massaged.
I have seen terribly aggressive dogs calmed in as little as 15 minutes of massage, and have used it to calm aggressive dogs, myself, as well as the calming of fears etc.
There is a theory some hold that animals see spirits that are in our house.
I don't know about that. I have never been to heaven and come back, so I don't know if spirits live among us.
I neither believe or disbelieve it. there are jusat too many things we don't know for sure.
But I do know massage and a lot of love and patience can help the shiest of animals, just like it can very shy humans.
Write me if you feel I can be of help, at any time.
