10 mo. old yorkie deperate to potty train

Question
I have a 10 month old yorkie that will sleep all night in his crate without messing in it.  We got another crate for daytime, (just a little bigger) and it seems that every day he messes in it both both pee and poop. We start every morning by taking him outside at 7:00 and he will immediatly pee and poop.  We then put his food down for about 10 min, we will take him outside about 15 minutes after he has eaten.  He will go #1 & #2 again.  He is then put into his daytime crate and left alone until lunch time around 12-1:00.  When one of us comes home, he almost always has a nice present for us to clean up. And not only that, but he will sometime eat it too.  We can sometimes take him outside and he will not go potty and then come inside and then poop on the floor.  What are we doing wrong?  I thought about using the nighttime crate for daytime too, but am afraid that he will start messing in that one too.  HELP HELP HELP! .... PLEASE

Answer
He may start pottying in the smaller crate, too, but I think he is in a too-large crate during the day. Give him the smaller one and see if he behaves himself.

You might try giving him a bit longer time to potty and see if he will go more. Some dogs are "two poopers or even three poopers". It could be that you are bringing him back inside before he is totally empty.

Also, that is a LOT of stool for one dog over 5/6 hours. Check the ingredient list on your bag. You could be feeding something with too much fiber.... or maybe you are just giving him too much food. Excess food causes excess stool.

Keep a journal of his stool habits. Most dogs tend to go around the same time every day. When it is time for him to go (and he hasn't), keep him outside a little bit longer and get him moving around so that he might want to go. If he doesn't when you think he should, put him back in his crate and try him about a half hour later or so. Be sure to give him LOTS of praise when he potties outside!
