Dog urination problems

Question
My dog urinates at least 12 times a day, is that normal? She is 3 years old and just had puppies.  Even before she had the puppies she was going every couple of hours.  I don't leave food or water down with her during the day so she can't be drinking too much, any ideas what could be causing it? If you don't have an answer could you please refer me to someone who could help me?

Answer
Dear Shawn,

Thank you for writing to me about your dog.  I would suggest that you allow your dog access to water and feed her twice a day, in the morning and evening.  A dog who is pregnant or nursing, needs a lot of fluids, or she can dehydrate.

Your dog may have a bladder infection or some other medical problem.  She needs to be seen by a vet to determine what the medical problem is. I hope you will take her there.

Additionally, it is better for your dog's health to have her spayed.  This will not only prevent certain cancers but will save a dogs life.  For every puppy born there is one less home for a dog on death row.

Good luck with your dog.

Best,
Shelley Davis
