Is cleaning of the Vulva area Ok

My female dog is currently being treated for a UTI by her vet.  I am focused on prevention now.  Is it Ok to clean her vaginal area with mild soap to help prevent growth of bacteria?  I have trimmed the hair in this area so that it doesn't hold moisture.  Any input is appreciated.

Believe it or not, this can actually do more harm then good :) I would not recomend cleaning the vulva at all unless you notice a crust of urine.

Lots of water, good, appropriate healthy food (not high in grains, fat, sugar and waste products) and even cranberry suppliments (They make cranberry dog biscuits now) help a lot. Soaking her dry food in water will help too. The more water, the better.
