Rhodesian Ridgeback, poo in crate

Question
Hi, I have a ~3 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback, who is doing very well with obedience and potty training. However, when he is left alone in his crate, for even short periods of time (2 - 3 hrs), he has a tendency to poo in his crate.

This has happened a few times now, we've changed his crate to the Doggy school's recommendations. However he continues to poo in his crate. He does not have this problem at night when he sleeps in his crate, nor does he poo anywhere else in the house.

There doesn't seem to be any reason for him to poo in his crate, as he is walked regularly, especially before we leave him alone.

If there is anything that we could do to stop this from happening I'd love to hear about it.

Thank you very much,
Nick

Answer
I never have had the problem and don't understand it.  It comes up here and other sites. I think it is the stress of being left alone.  Being by themselves is not a natural thing for a dog.  The remedy I see the most success with this is medication from the vet.  Before resorting to that, try a Kong filled with peanut butter.  Depending how well food motivated he is, he may fall asleep while licking the peanut butter out.  The tireder he is, the more likely to work.
