Question
Hi, I have a 7 month old german shepeard mix with mastiff I have him since he was 3 weeks old because his mom went dry. I recently adopt a bassed hunt- beagle almost 3 tys old and the german shepeard is jelous with the new dog. Everything the new dog have the sheaperd want it. Both aren't nuter yet. my question is if neuter them will help them to be more calm or if you have something that can help in this situation???

Answer
Neutering should help, Esther, but training is in order as well. I highly recommend the "Nothing in Life is Free (NILIF)" technique, and I do it daily with all of my dogs as well. In a nutshell, NILIF requires that your dogs 'earn' everything by following a command from you. You can find LOTS of information by doing a search at http://www.yahoo.com on it.

It sounds as if the 7 month old wants to be the alpha dog, and that position should be held by YOU. I strongly suggest that you not leave toys or chew bones (or food) lying around, because a fight could start over one of those items. Toys should only come out when YOU want to play with the dogs. You should not let them play with toys with each other - only with you.
