My Dog has hepatitis

My 10 year olf Maltese has been diagnosed with bacteral hepatitis after having bood tests.  Is this infectious to my other dogs and what about to humans?  I know her diet needs to change, no fat - can you give me advice on feeding.  Should she be eating smaller regular meals?  She has been treated with tablets for 8 days and is responding -will she suffer any damage - I believe the liver regnerates itself.

I do not have any type of medical background so I'm unable to answer most of your questions.  I do believe, however, that you are correct and that the liver has the capability to repair itself.

If your dog has just been diagnosed, I'm truly surprised your vet did not cover your questions with you.  Shame on them.  Please contact them with your concerns.  They should be able to relieve your concerns about contagiousness, feeding, long-term effects of the medication, etc.
