Question
I have a black lab and australian shepherd mix. If I give him a piece of fish like salmon, he rubs his face in it. Sometimes he eats it, other times he just rubs himself in it and walks away. I was recently cooking crabs in the house and he started acting funny, sniffing around the kitchen, jumping up on the counter (which is very unlike him) to find what the smell was. He was also making a motion like he was rubbing his head in something in the air. Is there something with dogs, maybe certain breeds, and the smell of seafood?

Answer
Hi Liz;
I have two dogs that are part Australian Shepherd.
These little clowns are not like any other breeds I have ever had.
They are funnier, more loving to all things, and bigger theives when it comes to stealing food.LOl
It isn't much of a compliment to your cooking if he rubs himself in it.LOl
seafood does tend to smell funny when it is cooking.
I love crabs, but if they tasted like they smell when they are cooking, I wouldn't like them.
I think your dog is just wacky, like my Aussie mixes are.
Jusat be glad it is FISH he smells like after he rubs in it, and not some of the other things dogs like to roll in.LOL
