Question
I have had my dog for 10 years now and he potty trained easily and has not peed or pooped in the house for probably 8 years. He recently started having seizures and the vet put him on phenobarbital. Ever since then he has been pooping in the house daily. Most days he will go 3 or 4 times a day and 1 or 2 of those times is in the house. He'll even go in the house when I'm right here and he use to always "tell" me when he needed to go out. The vet said the the pheno would not cause this problem. What is the problem then? Help!

Answer
Anytime there is a marked change in potty-training habits, I suspect a medical issue. Perhaps the pheno doesn't cause it but whatever is causing the seizures might be the culprit.

Anxiety about the seizures or changes in schedule could be contributing factors.

3 or 4 bowel movements each day? That sounds a bit high to me. Consider a better quality food and place all meals on a schedule. Innova, Solid Gold, Eagle Pack are all better quality foods.

Good luck.
