Question
Has it ever been documented that a male minatured poodle has killed it babies so the mother will breed again?  I have been told this by a guy and I would like to know if he is right! my female poodle has given birth to 4 adorable puppies and I would like to know if they are in any danger from their dad(who has access to them 24/7), Thank you for your time, june almon

Answer
June,
It is an individual thing,,but it has nothing to do with bringing a female back into heat or to breed again.  It has to do with the male recognizing that the puppies are indeed puppies...I had two male fox terriers, one would kill puppies and one would just love them up...The one was not around puppies a lot and since they don't smell like dogs until they are about 5 months old, he thought they were critters....to be killed.    The other dog had been raised around a breeder who bred all the time and he new his puppies and loved them.
So be careful and don't leave them alone while you are not home...Just to be on the safe side.  Better safe than sorry, true?
The other problem is if the female gets upset with the male around and tries to snap at him she could inadvertently step on a pup and injure it....
And thirdly  if a puppy starts walking around and goes near a food dish of the males, he could become food aggressive...Or none of the above could happen.  So just be careful, the babies cant fight for themselves so you have to watch.  A lot of the mothers protectiveness has been bred out of our domesticated dogs...so mom wont be too much help
