Question
I have a 1 year old female Springer Spanial that I believe may be pregnant. She came into heat in the beginning of nov and ended in the middle of nov.I think her and our male may have bred. She is showing many signs of being pregnant, swollen mammary glands, tired, eating less then a lot.My concern is that she really doesn't have much of a belly on her.I can see that she is getting wider around her ribs though. Also I took her temp rectally tonight and it was at 99.9. She has also been throwing up a couple time in the past couple days. What do you think? Do you think we should expect to have babies or no? Also if it is a false pregnancy will her temp drop?

Answer
Hi,
Thirteen days from the first day that a female starts bleeding is her fertile time.  So if she came into heat on Nov 1, she would have been fertile around the twelfth or thirteenth.  So say she got bred on the thirteenth, that would make her about six weeks pregnant.  They go about 63 days from breeding before they have the puppy.  In a false pregnancy, the temp will drop.  At this point you may want to wait another week and get her an X=ray.  This way you will have an idea if she definitely has pups in there.  Check with your vet on the throwing up, that is not a normal thing, although she is young and may be having hormone changes that are affecting her stomach.
