Should I get a Boxer

Question
Sure, that would be great.  I am trying to study up as much as I can.  I am very committed to a long relationship.  I fall in love with all my pets and it doesn't stop when they grow up.  The roughhousing shouldn't be a problem.  The other two dogs like to play and did so with the Basset Hound we had.  I want to train the Boxer and that would help SOME.  I am disabled and therefore almost always home with the dogs.  Those resources would be appreciated and I will check them all out.  Thanks again for your words of wisdom.  I appreciate it.

Jim

I have a Toy Poodle (6) and a Toy Rat Terrier (10).  As you are probably aware, the terrier is territorial.  I want a Boxer real bad, but I never had one before.  I think if I get a puppy he will be accepted quicker.  Incidentally, those are the ages in brackets and both are male.  I want a male Boxer.  Do you think things would work out or would I more than likely have a lot of trouble getting him accepted into the kingdom, LOL?  There are no small children in my home and rarely do friends or relatives bring kids over.  First of all, what is it like owning a Boxer?  I understand they are very good family dogs.  I just lost a great Basset Hound to old age.  I love my two dogs, but also like a big dog to snuggle with.

Hi Jim,

Sorry about your lost.  You are right Boxers can be great family dogs and very accepting of other pets.  Boxers can also be very stubborn and because of that hard to train.  However, they are smart and can learn quickly.  My advice to you is to read up on as much information about Boxers as possible.  A good place to start is at this website http://americanboxerclub.org/

They have good resources and also a list of breeders. What is the sex of the other two dogs in house?  Please let me know and we can discuss this further.

You must have missed it.  I mentioned they were both males.  I am going to read up more today from the link you gave me.  Its good to hear they are accepting of other pets.  That's my main concern.  That's also the biggest reason I want a puppy.  Actually the biggest reason is because puppies are just so much fun.

If the dogs and pup are introduced properly to one another I don't see any reason why this relationship couldn't work.  One concern you might make note of that Boxers can ruffhouse, be careful since you have small dogs.  Please read up the Boxer and think about the long commitment you will have, as you know they don't stay puppies forever.  If you want I can make a list of resources for you that might help you with dog to dog introductions.
