My dog is breathing/barking strangely

Question
My dog is a 9 year old golden retriever, he is a little bit overweight. He is having trouble barking and breathing, when he barks, he seems to be having trouble letting it out and getting air back into his lungs, also when we go for walks, he sometimes stops and starts breathing very heavily along with wheezing, like in the barking. What might this be? Is my dog in danger?

Answer
Dear Joey,

Thank you for writing to me about your 9 year old golden retriever?  I think that your dog is in grave danger.  He may have a punctured lung.  He may have a tumor.  There is definitely something seriously wrong and he must be taken as to a vet as quickly as possible. Please do not take him for walks..just to relieve himself.  If you can, have him inside with air conditioning until the vet can see him.

I would rush him for medical help as soon as is humanly possible.

Best of luck,
Shelley Davis
