Question
My rednose pit is 53 days pregnant, and she having a mucus like discharge.  What is this?

Answer
Hi,

Thank you for writing to me about your pregnant rednose pit.

The discharge you describe is of concern.  Your dog may have an infection, or be losing the litter, or have developed a case of Pyometra, which, if left untreated, can kill her.

She must be taken to the vet immediately.

When your dog is ready to deliver, NEVER EXPECT YOUR DOG TO DELIVER A LITTER BY HERSELF.
Although animal whelping is a 'natural event' this does not mean that the animal does not get into serious trouble if left unattended. Mother and puppies frequently die because the owner thoughtlessly left her alone during this crucial time.

Be aware that for every heat a female goes through the chances for cancer increase dramatically so please consider spaying your dog.

Additionally, for every puppy born there is one less home for a dog on death row, especially for pit bulls.  The kill shelters are overrun with this breed.  Do the kind thing and consider having your dog spayed after this pregnancy.

Best of luck with the litter.
