dog urinating while sleeping

Question
I live in Bangkok and the vets here are unable to help me.
I have a mixed female cocker and spits.  She is eight years old and is starting to unrinate while she's sleeping.
Most of the time she doesn't even wake up after she's had the accident.  I have a doggie door so she's able to get out. I would appreciate any help you can offer.
Sincerely,
Diane Britton Tharachai

Answer
Hi Diane,

Thank you for writing to me about your dog's incontinent issues.  I apologize for the delay.  I've been overwhelmed because of the dog food poison recall here in the USA.  Many dogs are sick and dying because of contaminated food. Thank you for your patience.

The first suggestion is for your dog to get a medical checkup by your vet, including a blood panel.  Until then you can try giving her cranberry capsules from the health food store (or order on line).  This is in case she has a bladder infection.  There is also a homeopathic remedy called Cantharis that is also good for treating a bladder infection.

Sometimes when a dog is incontinent, withholding grains from the diet can be a great help.  There is also a homeopathic remedy called Pulsitilla that has been known to treat incontinence successfully.

Eventually, if none of these suggestions work, you will have to bring your dog to the vet to find out what is wrong.

Best Regards,
