HELP !!! House breaking my toy poodle

Question
Hello, we adopted a 2 yr old toy poodle from the animal shelter about a month ago.  The shelter didn't really know much about him. He has been a wonderful addition so sweet & loving. We have all gotten attached to him!!!  He is great with our 2 & 13 yr old. The problem is he is not house broken, he goes out about 5-6 times a day, for the most part pees and mostly poops 2-3 times a day. I feed him between 5-6 pm. If he is not at my side he'll have an accident. I need direction. I am not sure if I should keep track of his potty habbit or what !!! Just when he establishes a pattern like peeing and pooping in am & pm I give him freedom and he poos's in the house in the middle of the afternoon !!! I'll take all the advice you are willing to give.  Thank you, Julie

Answer
The best way is with a crate-but you have to keep him in there at all times, except to be fed,to go outside, for some play time and to take him anywhere-that is the fastest way,as most dogs don't want a dirty sleeping area

Now,with some dogs that doesn't work-so the other way to do things is to gate the dog off in one room, and put down puppy pads or papers and once the dog goes on those, slowly move it closer to the door, and that will move them outside-but crating is faster so try that first and it works in most cases, and poodles are known for being quick learners
