Answer
Hello, What i did for my overweight labrador retreiver was Stop all biscuts/milk bones also my Haylie never has eatten table scraps so she never got any during her weight loss program. I simply got a lite dog food fed it according to her current weight for weightloss and fed her twice daily, the only exercsie she was and is getting daily is a 10 minute morning walk and she plays with my two smallers dogs for at lest a few hours everyday, and Haylie has gone from 80 pounds to 75 in about 7/8 weeks and now has a perfect hourglass figure again! All I can say is Do NOT free feed the dog if you are stop now, Offer half his daily portion in a sealed off room or his crate/kennel morning and evening and whatever he doenst eat from a meal gets put back in teh food bin and he doesnt get the extra he missed from one meal the next he Does not, it took 5 days to get all three of my dogs eatting at the same time everyday after five days they all relized they have to eat the kibble when its offered or miss a meal or half a meal so the dogs get it fairly quickly. Also be sure to leave the room leave the dog alone while his meal is offered leave him with it for 30 minutes when you go back pick up wahts left if there is any and put it in the food bin repet for his evening meal and trust me the dog doenst starve itsself after a few short days as mentioned above the dog will clean its bowl to avoid being hungry later on, Without this plan my lab would still be overweight and my dog food budget would have gone overboard as I noticed that all of my dogs would eat about 20/30% More kibble then fed now according to bag feeding reccomendtions) when it was free fed. Also get two walks in daily for now as he doesnt have other dogs to play with/run with/carry on with he wont have as much exercsie as my dogs do...so try a ten minute morning walk before work and a 10/15 minute walk after dinner/when you get home from work, also it seemed to have helped to have played fetch indoor with my dogs during My labradors weight loss time...play a favorite game with your dog a few days aweek such as fetch/frisbee/tug for a few minutes it burs energy and will help with his weight issue. Best of luck.
