Answer
Hi James,

That looks like a mixed breed puppy to me.

Even more important than any breed, is an individual dog's temperament and personality.
Within any breed there are great variances in personality. So while you might read about how wonderful a particular breed is generally known to be, there are always examples of dogs of every breed that do not fit into the breed standard. With that in mind, it's possible to find aggressive Golden Retrievers, and laid back and delightful Pit Bulls.

Your best bet in finding a dog who will fit into your lifestyle is by visiting and interacting with a dog once you find one you're interested in, whether that be at your local animal shelter, or at a breeder.
Pet stores are great places to visit, but bad places to buy from. Read about why you shouldn't buy a dog from a pet store here:

Mixed breed dogs are generally healthier than their pure bred cousins, and make as wonderful a pet as any pure bred dog. If you are interested in a particular breed, you can try these free online breed selectors, which will tell you which breeds fit into your lifestyle:

If you've never owned a dog before, or spend a lot of time away form your home, then a puppy would not be a good choice for a pet. Also, a puppy is a potential. It may not grow up to be what you're expecting. Whereas, when you adopt an adult dog, you know it's temperament, size personality, etc. right from the start. Plus, many times an adult dog will have already been spayed or neutered, housebroken, and up to date on all it's shots.

Best of luck,
