Question
Hi,

I'm in Connecticut.
I have an 11 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback that is blowing his coat like no other dog I've ever had.
I had him checked for worms yesterday.  He is on top food with top supplement (solid Gold Hunden Flocken and solid gold seameal supplement)
Along with 1200mg-2400mg high quality fish oil daily.
He has been in 6 AKC shows and has had 4 firsts and 2 seconds.  He earned his first points before he was 10 months old.

Well, he now looks like a street dog.  I brush him twice daily thoroughly (yet relatively gentley) and have been for over a month now.
I use a rake (roung metal horse thingy) and a grooming stone and finish with a soft brush to get the loose hair off when I'm done.  Unfortunately, I'm NEVER DONE!

Can you tell me anything about "wet grooming"?
Should I take the rake in the tub with conditioner (I heard this)He has a major(show)this weekend 7/8-9 and I am really in need of some advice.

Thanks you so much,

Rick

Answer
I have never know a Ridgeback to shed that severely.  I am not sure what is causing it. Be careful not to brush burn him with too much brushing. As far as wet grooming, I wouldn't use a rake of any kind. Get whats known as a Zoom Groom. It is a rubber curry brush that you can use as much as you want without breaking off coat or irritating skin. Good luck in the ring...sounds like he is off to a good start. Wendy
