Question
I recently married and new husband does not want dog sleeping in bed with us, but okay in the same room just his own bed.  Dog is Italian Greyhound approximately 12 years old.  I rescued her and she has been sleeping in bed with me for over 9 years.  How do I break her of the habit?  Is crating her at night the best and just putting crate in room with us?

Answer
hello georgia,
yes a crate will be fine until she gets the point. lol    However to make this a successful endeavor  do a couple of things to help you both out.

First....situate the crate as close to you as you can....it would be good if you could lean your hand down and touch her...

Second.. get a dog heated blanket or pad to put in the crate.  That is one of the main things which makes it hard to train a dog to go from a bed to dog bed.   they are very used to being warm from your body heat and feel cold (specially Italian greyhounds).

Third...  get a cuddler bed to put in the crate so she feels enclosed and cuddled.  The heated dog pad can be used in this or under it..

ok good luck
