Question
almost everyone tells me that pittbulls are by far the most powerful dogs, but i think that an average sized
gsd or rottweiler would tear a decent sized pittbull apart if they were to fight.

Answer
Hi Ramzi,

You've asked an interesting question, but I'm not sure there is one definitive answer.

Any dog has to be taught to be an aggressive fighter, even Pit Bulls and Rottweiler's. In fact, until fairly recently both of those breeds were a much beloved and trusted family pets.

Dr. Brady Barr of the National Geographic Society measured bite forces of many different creatures.  A German Shepard, American Pit Bull Terrier and Rottweiler were tested using a bite sleeve equipped with a specialized computer instrument. It was found that 320 LBS of pressure on average is the bite strength of all three breeds. In fact, he found that those dogs jaw strength is no more spectacular than any other dog breed.

So, a dog's breed, overall body size strength, as well as it's aggressive nature must also play a part in how a dog fights.

I've read it's been proven that The Japanese Tosa is the toughest dog fighter. It's fairly dog aggressive breed. A big male can go up to 200 lbs, and it's extremely strong. The biggest Pit Bull would not have much of a chance against a Tosa, it's just too small to physically reach the Tosa during a fight, and would not be able to bring it down.

Other extremely powerful dog breeds are:

- Bull Terrier. (The Pit Bull is descended from the Bull Terrier.)
- Douge De Bourdeax
- Bouvier De Flanders
- Boxers
- Akbash Dogs
- South African Boerboels

Personally, I have no idea why anybody would want a fighting dog! But I hope I've answered your question.
