grunting cough and shaking Lhasa Apso

My Lahsa Apso is 16 mos.ant I have had him for 1 week. He started coughing I think, I sounded more like a pig grunting and his whole body was shaking. Later that day it happened again but just brief. An hour before that I gave him some lettuces. He does not have any symptoms of being sick. What could that have been ? He also has smelly ears. I had the hair removed in them and cleaned them out wit ear pads yesterday and it still has an odder.

Hello Ellain, He may have what is referred to as Kennel Cough, this is common when dogs are exposed to other dogs, such as where you got him from.  And it sounds as if he has an ear infection, this will not go away without antibiotics.  Sound like a trip to the vet is in order.  The vet will be able to confirm these theories and give you medicine, neither is critical, but will need antibiotics to clear up.  Good Luck, and Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
