Pooping in certain areas in house

Question
Hi   My cat just passed.  My dog, a 2 year old Wheaton Terrier (neutered) has now begun to poop where her litter box was located.  Also, my daughter's Shiatsu pooped in my dining room and now my dog will also pee and poop there.  Before this his housebreaking was great.  Why is this happening and how do I correct it?
Thanks
Irwin

Answer
Animals can grieve loss just as humans.  Make sure you clean the area with a commercial cleaner that will remove any lingering odor (or your dog will just keep going back).  You may have to treat the area several times and don't be afraid to soak it.  Also, block the dogs off from the areas where they are going inappropriately.  If they pick another place to mark, which they might or might not, clean it up as soon as possible and treat it with an odor neutralizer.  They will stop once they figure out the cat isn't coming back.
