Dog sexual relationships

Question
I have a 1.5 year old nutered male malamute.
About 2 months ago we got him a little female husky.  She is almost 6 mo old now and not yet fixed (although we plan to soon)

The problem is my male has been wanting to consimate the relationship since we got her and has yet to be sucessful.  He keeps trying and she keeps playing the duck and roll.  Depending on his mood after several attempts each evening he either get very despondent and depressed, sulking around or he get angry and starts trying to fight with her (more like kids fight than trying to hurt her)

I have never had a male and female together before and I'm not sure what to expect. I have a feeling that once it's happened that my household will be much happier and less stressful to all of us.

Could you please explain to me how this whole dog courting thing works.

Answer
First of all, spay your female asap. Your male is playing a little dominance game, I believe. He needs to feel he's still top dog. In time, I would guess he'll relax and enjoy the companionship of another dog in the house. At the present time, you need to supervise their play and correct him if he gets too rough: put him away. If you have a crate, that'd be the best place. You might want to check with your vet that he was indeed completely neutered, but I really think it's more dominance aggression. Patience and diligence and making certain your little one is not hurt is the way to go. Obedience training would also make a great impact. I recommend it for both of them.

Good luck!
