Refusal to walk on leash

Question
I have a 9 yr. old cocker spaniel who like any dog loved to go on walks - until this past year.  When we take her out on leash for a walk  she will just stop and refuse to continue.  We tried yanking the leash which of course did not work.  Then we decided that when she stopped and refused to continue we would tell her to sit, drop the  leash to the ground and continue walking without her.  A short ways down the road we tell her to come and she happily runs to us.  A few feet down the road the behavior starts all over again with her refusal to move.  At this point we cannot continue to take her on walks because she simply refuses to heal on leash.  Any thoughts on what is going on??

She is a nine year old dog, not a baby puppy...so, you must go very slow!!!
This is a big request, and I recommend that you go to a "Obedience" class...and use a very soft leash, with about a 6 ft line.
I can help you with some commands...with walk, come here, and heel...but, it is something you will need to go a one on one classs, to get real hands on training with motivational techniques!
Please contact a "Petsmart" or your vet for a Local Park class to give you the attention you truly need.
Thanks for your question, and let me know how you  do.

Melissa
