puppy sick after vaccines

Question
I'm looking to buy an 8 1/2 week old Yorkipoo puppy.  I was supposed to go see him at the breeder's last night but she called to say he had his vaccines the day before and he's now throwing up and has a fever (4 out of the 5 pups in the litter had the same reaction), and she'll call me to come see him in a few days, when he's feeling better.  I'm wondering, before I go see him, if that's a normal reaction to a vaccine or if it's an indicator of an unhealthy puppy.  What should I be looking for to indicate that he is a healthy puppy?  I don't want to buy him if he's likely to be chronically sick.

Thank you for your help.

Answer
It is not uncommon for puppies to have reactions to the vaccines - especially toy breeds such as a Yorkipoo.  The vaccine is either a killed or modified version of the actual virus - it is designed to stimulate an immune response in the puppy so they can develop antibodies to the virus.  Vomiting and having a fever is not a normal reaction to a vaccine, but it doesn't necessarily mean the puppy will be chronically ill - just that you will need to take care when having him vaccinated.  Of course the puppy could actually be sick - there is no way to tell for sure without a physical exam so if you do decide to get the puppy I would immediately take him to your own vet to be evaluated.  Any responsible breeder should give you some kind of health guarantee on their puppies anyway.  If this breeder is not willing to do so then I would definitely not get the puppy.
