Question

Sticks
Hi,
I've recently, (the last 24 hours) become the proud and admittedly worried owner of a Bull mastiff x great Dane now known as "STICKS" she is approx 9 to twelve months old, she has been vet checked has been given her injections for C5 etc. The main issue i have at the moment is at the moment is she is extremely malnourished she currently weighs 23.5 kilos, her ribs are visible as are hips. I've started using Innova large dog puppy food, but I'm trying to figure out how much i should be feeding her daily. I've already changed food once as she did not like the first food i tried. The INNOVA seems to be ok for her so long as i soak the food to make it a little softer I'm also adding some pet mince to this as well as a little ox liver. How many times  day should i be feeding STICKS to help her reach a healthy weight without over feeding her or causing further problems.
She has had a hard life already the previous.. well owners if i can call them as such, had her left outside no water no food no shelter, as such she has some small injuries to skin from the elements. any further help you could offer me would be greatly appreciated. She is a lovely dog with a wonderful temperament i just want to get her back on her feet and living a long and healthy life.. also... as i write this... any recommendations on how to control her gas.. it is currently eye watering.. thank you for your time and patience.
Chris

Answer
Hi Chris and Sticks!  That's wonderful that you took this girl under your wing.
On the back of the Innova Bag it will give you an idea of  how much to feed her.  You should be feeding her 2 x per day.  Innova is a great choice.  Please add 1 tablespoon of pure Salmon oil to her food daily.
You may want to add some Acidophilus to her daily program.  If she has such smelly gas then it may be a yeast problem.  I would give her 5 billion CFUs per day.

Look for a good Vitamin/Supplement - I refer many of my clients to NuVET Plus.
They won't ship to your country.  Try to find a good - quality- pet supplement.

Have the Vet check her stool for parasites.  (VERY common)

BEST wishes ladies!!!
