Question
I have a nine week old shitzu-chin, she has been excellent about going to the bathroom outside, we take her out every hour, and she makes it through the night with no accidents, however, she pees on the bed several times a day, sometimes just minutes after peeing outside, She has just been to the vet and checked out fine, do you know why she could be doing this and what I should do?

Answer
Hello, Leah. When you say she pees on the bed, I'm going to assume you mean HER bed. This behavior could be related to the type of material that her breeder had in the whelping box. Where >>is<< the bed? Is she coming inside and going straight TO the bed to pee, or what? When you take her outside to potty, how much time is spent outside, and how much time is she inside before she potties on the bed?

It could be simply that she isn't finished before you bring her back inside. Have you tried staying outside for a few more minutes after she pees the first time? You can spend that time playing with her or just letting her run around. At just 9 weeks old, she doesn't yet have full control over her bladder, so she might just not be emptying herself all the way.

I would suggest keeping the leash on her when you bring her back inside, so she has no opportunity to go to the bed to pee, and so that you can notice her signs of needing to go out, and take her out then, so she begins to associate feeling the urge to go potty with going to the door.

Good luck.
