Question
We have recently adopted an 18 month old HUGE male pitbull. He was raised around a 5yr old boy and has been a house dog since birth. He is now in a yard with another female pit mix(10yrs old). He is very friendly and non-aggressive to our other dog. Friendly so far to humans as well. I am a little intimidated by his size and he rarely wags his tail when I talk to him. He has no problem staring me head on which I try to avoid. When I am in his presense I pretty much go about my business without aknoweldging him because when I do he just gives a blank stare. He has done nothing aggressive, no growling, barking, jumping, etc. Seems to be very calm and loving and I want to open up to him, I am just a little confused by his behavior. Is there something I can do to establish a relationship where he knows Iam boss without either of us being afraid?

Answer
It may be that he is watching you,out of interest which is common when dogs are new into a household-he is not sure where his place in the pack is right now

Probably a good way to avoid problems and putting you at the top would be to take him to obedience classes,as that will bond you to him,as well as putting you as the alpha dog-and it is better to take him to training now BEFORE problems pop up,and the both of you will be much happier in the long run
