Question
we are purchasing an 8 week old English Mastiff.  We also have a farm and more fresh eggs than we know what to do with.  Is it ok to feed these eggs to the dog in place of dry dog food as it's main meal.  When it's grown maybe 6 cups of scrambled eggs twice a day?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Tommy and congratulations on your new addition.  Eggs are actually very good for dogs and one of the most concentrated forms of protein that a dog can receive, when they're cooked.  Raw eggs have a way of restricting the absorbtion of biotin in the dogs system causing a deficiency. I wouldn't feed strictly the eggs.  A growing puppy has so many other nutritional needs that they couldn't possibly be met by a diet consisting mainly of eggs.  I personally feed Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul.  It is a very high quality, natural food.  Another good choice is Canidae which comes in an All Life Stage formula. I would restrict the amount of eggs to one egg per 2 cups of food that your pup is getting and I would serve them either scrambled or hard boiled and mashed in with the dry food.  In my opinion, you want to stay away from 'large breed' puppy foods.  I tend to think they promote exaggerated growth rates which can have a negative impact on a giant breeds bones and joints. I wish you all the best with your pup.  Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
