Give a dog a bone.

Question
I have a Yorkie-Maltise male about 2yrs old. What bones, if any, are safe to give him? (ie. Ribs, T-Bone) I know chicken is out.

Answer
I don't recommend animal bones at all really except for knuckle or shank bones sold in petstores. Ribs can splinter and puncture the dogs innards...so can ham bones/T bones, pork chop bones. And chicken bones are generally lethal since they tear up the dogs innards terribly. I recommend Rawhides...the soild ones not the "chewed" up ones get them bigger then your dogs mouth...the big chip ones work nicely and you can take it away Before it gets small enough to swallow and choke on, my dogs have been chewing rawhides since they were puppies without problems. Also Nyla bone brand chew toys are great as well my dogs love them...the durable ones a better for adult dogs and come in many sizes...the ones I'm speaking of are Not edible but are to chew on and keep the dog entertained. Kong brand toys can be fun also my dogs like them because when you bounce them they can go in and direction and they love that you can also stuff kongs with hard bones and leave the dog to figure out how to remove them. Cow hooves for such a small dog as yours you be ok as well...larger dogs splinter them...I can no longer safely give them to my dogs because they shred them!.
