Question
My dog cheeba is a mix between pug and shi tzu and we pretty much have here trained. However, she has a problem with going upstairs to pee and poop. We think it's because she's trying to tell us she needs to go out but it's not getting through. Or maybe she doesn't know how to let us know. So my question is how do we train little cheeba to let us know when she needs to go out. She is seven months old on the third of December.

Answer
Hi Rebecca;
After she eats she will need to move her bowels.
This can be from 5 minutes after for some dogs, and a half hour or so for others.
She will need to empty her bladder soon after she drinks.
After she eats, watch her, and when she starts looking for a spot to go ( maybe when she starts upstaire), take her outside where you want her to go. Watch her until she goes, and when she does, may a big fuss, praising her for being siuch a good girl, sucjhh a smart baby,. etc
That way it shows her how pleased you are.
If you find a place she has gone in the house, take her to it, point to it and say," Shame on you", and " you go outside to do that", things like that. Let her watch you clean it up, scolding her all the time you are cleaning up.
That will show her you are displeased when she goes inside.
She wants to pleas you and be praised,
You SHOW her what you want her to do, and praise her for doing it right, and scold for doing wrong. That is how she learns.
Scrub where she has gone indoors so she can no longer smell it.
Carpet shampoos, floor cleaners clean so humans can't detect an odor, but the animal can still smell it.
I use Simple Solution for floors and carpets.
It is such a good stain remover, I use it in the laundry too. It is the best stain remover I have ever found, and they are not supposed to be able to smell any odor after it is used.
On carpets this may take a deeper cleaning, because some of the odor will be on th pad underneath, and sometimes more than one application will be needed.
Petsmart and Petco stores have good group obedience classes on weekends. So do most Humane Society chapters, and a lot od the animal rescue groups have them. Then there is also Man's Best Friend. They have excellent trainers.
You would learn the proper and easiest way to teach her what you want her to do. After you have gonbe through the course, you will know how to train any other dogs you get in the future, so it is well worth the nominal fees they charge.
