Question
How do I stop my dog from wanting to chase down vehicles? He is a 2 year old black lab mix. He is very strong though, and every time I try to take him for a run or walk, he lunges so hard when cars go by, I can hardly hold onto the leash! He has lots of energy, so we walk/run a lot. I get frustrated every time though. Although he is always tied up, I am afraid he will end up being hit by a car if he gets loose. Please let me know if you have any ideas to help. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Joanna,  First I would go to Home Depot, Lowes or one of the other stores like that and buy a panel kennel run for him.  Tieing up a dog frustrates them as they have no freedom of movement so they get anxious and start trying to chase anything that moves in front of them.  At least getting him off that chain could help relieve that anxiety.  For walking I highly recommend a Halti brand head halter for dogs.  It works like a halter on a horse, but it is made for dogs.  We use it in all of our trainings.  It prevents a dog from being able to pull on the leash because there is no musculatur in the face for a dog to pull with, so it basically keeps the dog under control.  You can buy them at any Petco's, PetSmarts etc.  For a lad I would recommend a size 2.  Hope this helps,
