Whats wrong with my Chiuhua?

Question
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, it is very much appreciated! My chiuhua is about 9 years old (in human years) and for the past week she has been acting as if she is dizzy or light-headed. She is also having alot of trouble with either her back legs or hips, I'm really not sure which. She can no longer jump or go up or down stairs, and she walks strange. I have been having to carry her down the steps to take her outside and when she gets out there she does her business-while stumbling around, and then sits down and won't budge until I go pick her up and bring her back into the house. She's usually a really hyper active playfun dog and for the past week she has been sleeping alot and just moping around. If you have any idea what could be causing this PLEASE let me know!!! Thanks so much!!!! Missy

Answer
Hi Missy and thanks for your question.

Did this come on all of a sudden? If so, it sounds as if she could have had a stroke or has sustained some type of injury.
Some signs of a stroke would be head tilt to one side, inability to walk straight, overall body weakness, and inactivity. Keep in mind, these are just some signs and there could be many others, but your vet could give you more complete advise.

It could also be arthritis, kidney failure, or several other health problems. I would make an appointment for her to see the vet.

Please let me know how she is doing.
