Housetraining male dog

Question
I just got a poodle, approx 7 months old, male.  He raises his leg in the house. I have been keeping him in the kennel at night. We are taking him to the dog park daily and outside to urinate 3 times a day. What can I do to stop him from raising his leg?

Answer
The problem isn't housebreaking, but dominance.  Neutering him is not already is your best chance.  It is no cure all, but often makes a dramatic difference in cases like this.  Otherwise, you will have to hope stronger leadership is enough.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
