puppy girgling

Question
Our Italian Greyhound just had SIX puppies-(we were surprised,at the number not the delivery) The biggest male is acting normally, playful, happy, but he's begun to make a girgling noise.  We thought it was hic-cups, but now believe it's coming from his throat, almost like a frogs "croak." They are 4 weeks old now. Have you heard of this? Since I see no other problems, I was still going to wait for the 6 week appointment.  What do you think?

Answer
Hi Kathy, You should check the puppies lungs, he may have aspirated fluid during birth or while feeding, you can hold his chest up against your ear and try to listen for any sounds that are not regular breath sounds, I would take him into the vet sooner if possible, Usually a mother and her pups need to have a vet check soon afterbirth to make sure nothing is left inside of mom and to make sure pups are all fine, they usually charge a litter price, not an individual price, it usually is not that bad, Hope this helped, Sincerely, Angela
