Question
best day's for breeding and how many times do the dogs have to tied

Answer

Hi Jamie,

The average female bleeds for 7-10 days before beginning "standing" heat, or her fertile time. However, it is normal to spend anywhere from 2 to 21 days in this non-fertile bleeding period. Once the blood begins to decrease in volume, the female will begin to "stand" for a male for the next 2-21 days (average 7-10 days). Although they stand for that time, they are only fertile for about 5 days after ovulation, which can occur before or during this phase. It's generally recommend to place the male with the female every other day after the blood begins to diminish.

Please keep in mind that a female dog shouldn't be bred before her second heat cycle, and that she should be examined by your vet prior to breeding her, to ensure she's in tip-top shape, and also to get any inoculations that are due. Vaccines shouldn't be given once a dog has become pregnant.

Now is the time to start to read up on the care your dog will require while she's pregnant, and also to read about what to expect during the whelping, or birthing of the puppies. Here are a few sites to get you started:
