Question
My tiny chihuahua Rex (7lbs) just ate a crab apple for the first time.  It was a very small one, smaller than a walnut.  I know apple seeds can contain arsenic, do crab apple seeds?

Is this harmful?
Thanks so much!!
Lori

Answer
Hi Lori-

yes, crab apples contain apple seeds which contain arsenic. One apple should not kill him, however it may make him a little sick. I would watch him carefully and if you notice any signs of toxic shock, like heavy vomiting, shaking, dizziness, seizures or extremely loose stool, take him immediately to the vet. And watch out for crab apples! :)
