boston hair loss

Question
I have a two year old boston terrier. As a puppy she had what my vet called puppy mites. She was treated twice and the fixed, she hasn't had a breakout since. She does tend to be a nervous dog and maintains her weight at about 10.5lbs, but her weight has to be watched. I noticed about six weeks ago her hair was falling out on her hind legs. I immediatly called the vet, they told me to watch it, it was most likely change in season. I recently moved and changed vets the new vet told me she could be sesitive to fleas and to put a flea treatment on her and come back in a month. I did this and it has been two weeks it seems to be slightly worse. Her behavior hasn't changed she is still very active and happy seeming, with only the normal dog itches. I don't know what to do i am worried she may be sick, but my husband thinks i am over worried. Please any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Sam

Answer
Hi Sam,  It sounds like your dog had demodectic mites, which are caused by stress.  They are common in puppies due to stress in changing of lifestyle and other changes.  Demodectic mites cause demodectic mange which is the hair loss you see.  it could easily be happening again if you have a very nervous dog.  You can treat it yourself with an antifugal lotion.  There is one called Septiderm that works really well on it.  As long as she is eating and acting normal, don't worry too much.  Just get the lotion and treat her with it.  Hope this helps,
