Question
Hello,
my toy fox terriers hind quarters seem to seize up some times and get really
tense. It seems like a prolonged muscle spasm. it causes him a lot of distress
and even pain. when it happens he cannot sit and begins to act strange like
getting in the bath tub, pacing, rubbing against things and panting. some
times it seems to make him have a bowel movement as well. Could this be a
food allergy or a disease? What could be causing this?

Answer
Truthfully this sounds like an epileptic seizure to me, which is a very common problem in toy fox terriers. The panting and defecation are strong symptoms and the seizing up really sounds like epilepsy. Sounds like pretty tough seizures too How old is he? My STRONGEST advice is for you to get him to the vet asap. He can be put on medication to control his seizures, if that's what this is, and if you don't they will continue to worsen and likely end his life. Most dogs , and people who suffer from epilepsy can feel a seizure coming on,., which would explain his anticipation of the event.
Good luck with him,
Cindi
