dog not walk

hi
i have a 5 month old male irish bull terrier,i've had him from a pup 7 weeks old.the trouble is when it comes to walk him,i put his lead on and he goes mad to go out but when i get out on the street he will go for a few yard then just sit down, he wont walk off the street.its a dead end street so thers no cars going past he just sits there and will not move, if i carry him off the street and round the corner he then walks,he will walk off the street if theres two of us or another dog with us but he wont walk if theres just one person with him.if i take im to the park in the car he sometimes just sits at the side of the car and not walk.once out and round the park hes ok when its time to go home he will pull all the way back.it means that there as to be two of us all the time to walk him.can you help.many thanks phil.

What a strange problem you have there, Phil! Have you tried anything other than picking him up and carrying him? I would try to encourage him to come with you by using a happy voice and maybe treats or a toy, rather than carrying him. He needs to overcome this on his own. Another thing you could try would be a long leash. It should be as long as possible. Hook it to his collar, and walk him as usual to the spot where he usually stops. Then, drop the slack and continue on, holding the end of the leash. Do not stop, or look back at him; just continue on. He *should* eventually become worried that you're going off and leaving him, and he should start towards you before you reach the end of the line (that's why it needs to be as long as possible). Carry a small mirror so you can hold it up and watch him as you walk away, without having to turn to see him. At the MOMENT he gets up and takes a step towards you, stop, turn around, and praise the heck out of him and encourage him to continue towards you. If he stops again, turn around and keep walking. Repeat.
