Question

snoopy
hi, my name is praveen n i have a dog thats 2 years old. i got him from my friends as they couldnt take care of him. my problem is he comes running from outside into my home and occasionally has the habit of peeing on my bed or on the floors, even if the doors are wide open for him to go out. i tried everything i could to stop this including beating him  [not harshly]. help..i got him home, hes my responsibility, my folks would kill me if he pees on a bed again.

Answer
First, if he is intact, have him neutered as that may help with his marking.

Pretend you just brought home a new puppy, and train him to stay in a crate, let him outside after he eats and wakes up, and keep him confined if he cannot be watched. Take him outside on a fairly regular basis, go with him, and praise him when he potties outside. Keep a journal of his potty times so that you have an idea of when he should need to eliminate. Close off the bedrooms by shutting the doors or putting up babygates; do not give him complete run of the house until he improves.

Get him into ongoing obedience classes for several months, and everyone in the family must practice "Nothing in Life is Free" with him. http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm

Good dogs are made, not born... and they must be taught what is appropriate behavior.
