Question
QUESTION: My 6 month old puppy is doing diarreah with blood and i dont know what to do!! please help because he is my friend and its hard to let him go. :(

P.S My mom Cnat afford a vet right now!:o

ANSWER: Dear Jaizlyn,

Thank you for writing to me.  My heart is breaking for your situation because diarrhea with blood in a puppy is a very bad sign.  If he doesn't have his shots he may have a deadly disease and unless seen immediately by a vet will die.  Isn't there any way that your mom can pay the vet in installments?

The puppy is suffering.  When a family agrees to adopt a dog they must take responsibility for that dog's welfare and not let it suffer.  I can't tell you exactly how to afford vet bills because I don't know your circumstances but I know that by cutting back on things like cigarettes, beer, fast food, and anything extra, perhaps funds can be found to work out a payment plan with the vet.

If you wouldn't allow a child to suffer medically, why let a puppy do so?

I encourage you to find a way to do right by this puppy.

The bloody diarrhea could also be caused by giardia which is a vile parasite that people can catch so it really is crucial that you find out what the cause is for this situation.

In the meantime, stop feeding the puppy for 24 hrs. Make sure he is drinking water.  Buy some infant pedialite (plain) or coconut water (not milk) from the health food store so you can restore lost electrolytes.  If the puppy won't drink then add a pinch of beef broth to the pedialite.  What can kill a dog faster than a parasite is dehydration.

After 24 hrs give your dog white rice with canned pumpkin and boiled chicken (no bones or skin).  Observe him carefully.

This will only work if the diarrhea isn't being caused by a disease or parasite.

I strongly urge you to find a way to take your puppy to the vet IMMEDIATELY.

Best of luck,
Shelley Davis

QUESTION: Thanks for all your help and he stopped mirracally and  heres a little story. the same thing happened to one of my prevo\ious dogs and he died but the lady who gave him to me didnt tell me that he had parvo, he had fleas, and needed to go to the vet so he did diarrhea with blood and died september 19:( so now i get very worried about my puppy and try my hardest to keep him safe! thanks for listening

Answer
Hi,

I am so glad he is feeling better.  I was very worried about Parvo.  I'm glad that he recovered and is doing well.  Try to put a coin jar together and put all your loose change into to be used for vet bills.  You would be surprised how quickly it can add up.
